This course builds on the Emergency Warden course and provides skills and knowledge to Chief Wardens to prepare for workplace emergencies, to apply command – control – and coordination aspects to emergency procedures, to control the response to emergency reports, to coordinate the initial emergency response, and to liaise with emergency services. This course is designed to prepare Chief Wardens to confidently control workplace emergencies and lead the Emergency Control Organisation [ECO] responders.

Participants will extinguish live fire in a controlled environment using extinguishers, fire blankets, and hose reel equipment. Our unique approach to training will empower and challenge. Realism in Training ensures that our training is uncompromising in its quality to arm participants with the skills to know what to do and how to do it should the need arise.

Nationally Accredited Certification on Completion

On successful completion of this highly practical course, participants receive a nationally accredited statement of attainment for the following units of competency:

CPPFES2005 Demonstrate first attack firefighting equipment
PUAFER005 Operate as part of an emergency control organisation
PUAFER006 Lead an emergency control organisation

Under the provisions of AS 3745-2010 refresher courses are to be completed every 2 years.

Course Information

PUAFER006 Description

This unit of competency involves the skills and knowledge required to make decisions about the safety of occupants during a facility emergency and to give instructions on the priority order for responding to an emergency incident.

It includes leading the preparation of facility emergency response procedures; commanding, controlling and coordinating facility emergency response procedures and responses and concluding the facility emergency incident. Individuals who undertake this work may also act as the primary liaison with emergency services after their arrival.

The unit has been developed to cover the facilities as specified in Australian Standard (AS) 3745 and AS4083. For this unit, as covered by AS3745 and AS4083, occupants are people attending a facility on a permanent or temporary basis such as an employee, contractor, student or resident, but not a visitor or patient and a facility is a building, structure or workplace that is, or may be, occupied by people (occupants).

All aspects of the unit must be undertaken in line with legislative requirements, organisational policies and procedures and approved safe practices. It applies to members of an Emergency Control Organisation (ECO) who are Chief Wardens, deputy Chief Wardens and Communications Officers.

Who should do Chief Warden training?

This program is designed for individuals or groups who:

are designated workplace Chief or Deputy Chief Wardens.
are required to make decisions about the safety of occupants during a facility emergency.
are required to give instruction and direction to ECO members in a variety of workplace emergencies.
are responsible for pre-emergency, emergency, and post-emergency actions as part of the ECO.
need to complete a comprehensive fire safety course as part of a workplace induction or general safety awareness training.
are seeking self-improvement / professional development.
want hands-on practical experience in extinguishing live fire in a controlled environment.
need practical experience in leading evacuation and shelter in place exercises.
