Over the past 2 years the Security Operations qualifications have undergone a major review to align with current industry standards and the national security climate.
Keep reading to find out what this means for you...
The current qualifications will undergo the following changes:
CPP10107 Certificate I in Security Operations |
Was considered redundant and will be deleted from the National Register |
CPP20212 Certificate II in Security Operations |
Will be superseded by and non-equivalent to CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations |
CPP30411 Certificate III in Security Operations |
Will be superseded by and non-equivalent to CPP30318 Certificate III in Security Operations |
The development of 1 new qualification: |
CPP30418 Certificate III in Close Protection Operations |
Several new units have been developed as well as 6 contemporary skill sets that are intended to support licensing requirements.
The purpose of this exercise was based on:
- the national strategic review conducted for the security industry by Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA)
- alignment of the training package with current policy according to the Standards for Training Packages 2012
- Queensland Training Ombudsman 2016/17 Annual Report
When will it happen?
Release of the new training package is imminent – the project is in the final stages and will be endorsed at any time.
RTOs like Tactical Training will need to apply to add these new qualifications and skill sets to their scope of registration. From the time the new training package is released, RTOs have 1 year in which to get these qualifications on their scope of registration and start transitioning students.
You can check an RTO’s scope of registration on https://training.gov.au/Home/Tga
What this means for you….
Each state has a regulating body for security licensing. In South Australia this is Consumer and Business Services (CBS). CBS are responsible for establishing the licensing and endorsement requirements for this state.
Please note, the new qualifications are not equivalent with the old versions.
In the past when similar changes have occurred, CBS has adopted the ‘grandfather’ clause – meaning that if you hold and continue to maintain a security licence, you will not be required to do any additional training.
If you have let your security licence lapse or you have completed the training but have never applied for a security licence, you may be required to update your qualifications or undertake gap training to be eligible to apply.
